Important Communication

Dear Members,
We would like to inform you that we have sent a letter to Minister Sandals requesting that the funding for First Nations, Métis & Inuit Education (this includes Native Languages) be enveloped immediately.  There have been many media announcements from both provincial and federal governments with respect to the Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.  As we are encouraged to hear these announcements, we have yet to hear any commitments that speak to the transparency and accountability of the millions of dollars that is given to school boards each year.  You will see in the attached letter, we have requested that this money be enveloped so to ensure these funds go directly to where they are intended.
Kind regards,
Jodie Williams
Co-chair First Nations, Métis & Inuit Studies
Dr. Mary Ann Corbiere
Co-chair Native Languages
Please see the attached letter: letter to ministry of education June 6

  2. As a classroom native studies teacher, I can attest to lack of funding from my principal for the past 8 years. Fortunately we just got a new principal who is on board.
